Hell's Café
I am still developing Hell's Café but I can tell you a bit about it. The story takes place in New Orleans, in the late 1800's and is about Theodora, a young woman who joins a writer's group [comprised of three men: Gabriel, Michael & Seth] who frequent the Hell's Café to drink absinthe and share story ideas. Theodora soon starts to fear the characters in the horror stories they've created have manifested in the real world and may be responsible for the latest wave of violence in the French Quarter. I will post more news about Hell's Café as the project develops.
Enchanted
I am currently working on a new comic project to be published with SLG called Enchanted. Illustrated by GloomCookie artist Vincent Batignole. The story is about a young woman named Bella. She chooses to live in her own world, surrounded by books and oddities. She is hiding from her destiny in her Aunt's dusty, old book shop in the French Quarter, reading about demons, ghosts and mystical creatures' attempting to avoid the day she will have to venture out in the world and be confronted by such creatures. That is until her aunt gives her a little nudge out the door, sending her off to be the unwilling guardian of young twins, a girl and a boy, named Kitty & Julian: children who have mysterious fates of their own, who need Bella's protection, so they can fulfill their own destiny. It will be Bella's task to use her knowledge the gifts her aunt has taught her to reveal the secret mystery behind these children's future and to keep them safe from harm's way.
Nightmares & Fairy Tales is a collection of short horror stories and retellings of dark fairytales, told from the point of view of a little rag doll named Annabelle, FSc illustrated the first 12 issues. Crab Scrambly [Writer/illustrator for The 13th of Never] illustrated issue 13- 18, a six-issue story arc called: 1140 Rue Royale. The story is about an elderly woman named Victoria and her young niece Rebecca who move into a house that is haunted by vicious spirits, the victims of horrific crimes perpetrated by the house's previous owner Madame Lalaurie. Camilla d'Errico has since taken over illustrating the comic at issue 19, a two-part modern retelling of the classic fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty, to be followed by a tale about a captured mermaid, inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's Shadow Over Innsmouth, and a tale about the infamous Blue Beard.
GloomCookie
The GloomCookie universe features and ensemble cast of characters: Tiny heroines, malevolent gargoyles, living wax statues, tortured werewolves, bad goth poets, delusional live-action Nosferatu players, reformed wicked queens & monsters under the bed, just to name a few. But in the center of it all is Sebastian, a young man with extraordinary powers granted by his mysterious family, The Carnival Macabre. Sebastian fears he has wished everything and everyone he knows into creation, including his girlfriend Chrys. He has to come to terms with his powers and the enormous responsibility that comes along with them. Vincent Batignole is currently illustrating GloomCookie.
novels
Fairest of All
I am writing a novel for Disney Press about the Wicked Queen from Snow White, called Fairest of All. The editor I'm working with at Disney is amazing. He's giving me a lot of freedom to work with this character, to bring her life and give her a voice of her own. I plan to explore her past, her relationship with the man in the mirror, and her motivations for attempting to kill Snow White. This will be the first of what I hope to be a series of novels about my favorite Disney villains. Fairest of All will be released October 2008.
film
I've been collaborating with writer/director Phil Flores (of The Butcher Brothers ) on a horror screenplay. I am really enjoying working with Phil, we share a very similar aesthetic and approach to horror but we come at it from different angles, bringing elements to our story that might not otherwise be there if we were not collaborating. It's been an interesting and rewarding experience working with another writer, it's something I haven't done before. I find it very inspiring to work with someone who wants to make an actual horror film, (something truly frightening) and who is unafraid to cross boundaries. I look forward to seeing how this thing turns out and I will be sure to keep you updated as this project progresses.
